2024 Dodgers in Review: Zach Logue

Zach Logue’s brief, quirky Dodgers stint in 2024 wasn’t notable for dominant pitching—but it was unforgettable, thanks in part to a monstrous sandwich and a few chaotic innings in Miami.

A Season of Transience

Logue started 2024 with the Atlanta Braves, pitching solidly for Triple-A Gwinnett with a 3.08 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 73 innings. Despite being called up twice, he never threw a pitch for Atlanta, and was eventually DFA’d on September 1 to make room for John Brebbia.

By September 12, Logue signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers and was assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He pitched just three innings there before being called up to the majors on September 18, desperate times for a bullpen-depleted LA team.

The “Cheat Day” Game

That call-up coincided with one of the most bizarre in-game food moments for a Dodgers blogger. While watching from the PNC Club at loanDepot Park in Miami, the writer ordered a jaw-dropping "Cheat Day" sandwich—a burger wedged between jalapeño funnel cakes and topped with tequila-smoked bacon. It was nearly inedible.

As the writer struggled with the sandwich, Logue made his Dodgers debut, entering a 6-0 game. He threw just nine pitches, allowing three hits, two runs, and no outs. His MLB ERA at that point was technically infinite. As Blake Treinen came in to clean up the mess, the fan and Dave Roberts likely had the same thought: “This isn’t working.”

A Second Chance (and a Real ERA)

The very next day, with Shohei Ohtani stealing headlines, Logue returned and threw a more stable three-inning outing, giving up one run and striking out four. That performance gave him a tangible ERA (18.00) and, in a small way, redeemed his earlier disaster.
